Shenkuu River Rush

Submitted by Dave

A game that’s the first of its kind on Neopets, Shenkuu River Rush is a fast paced action game that people with true gaming consoles and those involved in top level online games will be familiar with. Requiring the 3D Life Player plugin which is a free download, Shenkuu River Rush lets you play as either Cassile or Bowe, two of the top surfers of Shenkuu. The object of the game is to show off your skills by avoiding obstacles, collecting bonuses and doing tricks. The controls for River Rush are farly simple. Use the arrow keys to move and the spacebar to jump. You can hit the spacebar twice to double-jump, and press spacebar and the up arrow for a long jump. You can press the P key to pause the game.

As you play, you’ll see different bonuses to collect. Each earn you one point. There are:

Speed Boost
Speed Boosts: Speed you up (who knew?)

Invulnerability
Invulnerabilities: Make it so that running into obsctacles such as logs, rocks or posts will not remove a life.

Super Jump
Super Jump: Launches you into the air to a higher height than a normal jump.

Boing! While in the air, you can do different tricks by holding down Shift (at the time this guide was written only the left shift key works, under Caps Lock) and pressing the sequence of arrow keys required to do a specific trick. The different tricks are:

The tricks in Green are worth one point by themselves, the tricks in Yellow earn 4 points by themselves, and the tricks in Red earn 8 points by themselves. The Red tricks both have question marks in their combination, meaning that the key you press then changes each time you do the trick. It is currently presumed to be random. If you hit the water while still doing a trick, you lose a life.

Each time you enter a combination for a trick, it is added to a queue to be done. For example, if you hit ↑ ↓ ↓ → ←, you’d do a Sandan Somersault then a Whirling Kazeriu. Each trick you enter will be executed unless you clear out the queue before falling by pressing the spacebar. It’s always a good idea to do this when you’re close to hitting the water to avoid losing a life.

When you do a trick, you’ll see green text popping up on the screen telling you how much you’ve earned. With each consecutive trick performed in a jump, this score goes up. If you land successfully, these points are added to your score. If you land in the middle of a trick, you lose a life and the points are not added to your score.

Secret Path
In Shenkuu River Rush, there is a secret path that you can take, eventually merging onto the regular path again. I don’t reccommend going here untiil you’ve played the game four or five times and are fairly confident in extreme terrain. To get to the secret path:

When you see this Super Jump in this area (the course is the same for everyone so it will be just like this):

Here's your clue!

Collect the super jump, but instead of continuing straight, turn to the left or right of the path, and land on the other river that’s in the mist in that direction. In this game we went to the right, but it works either way:

A safe landing!

You’ll enter a tunnel and the game will tell you you’ve entered the Secret Path. This will take practice, but you’ll learn how this works after a while. If you miss your opportunity at the path, it is possible to double-jump over the wall on the regular path to get to the river. Make sure you do this soon.

The river and waterfalls are waiting! I think you’d better get surfing! You’re burning daylight…

It’s great, but how do you get the items? And what are the petpets supposed to do?

I don’t know about petpets, but the items are real neopian things that you buy in a shop and keep them in your inventory for a game boost. I have Pack of Holding and 2 Pant Devil Attractors because they keep the pant devil away from my valuable items =) The Pack of Holding gives minor bonus points when entering a new level, but they add up.

I hold down the shift key, and enter the keys to do a trick, but it doesn’t do the trick. Why is that?
