Restocking Guide
Submitted by Will
What is restocking? Restocking is the process of buying items at apublic shop in Neopia and selling it in your shop for a profit. I believe public shops price items based off of the Est. “value” set a long time ago (but we all know it’s waaay off!) Since most Estimated values are much lower than the actual value of an item, (what it sells for in the Shop Wizard or the Trading Post) restocking is possible! Many of those Neopians you see out there with fancy pets, rare items out the wazoo, and a hefty sum in their bank achieved their monetary status by restocking. Follow the guide below, and with a bit of luck, practice, and patience, you’ll be on your way to riches!!
Do I need money to restock? You should have at least 20-40k on hand while restocking so that you can catch rare items and also restock for a good amount of time before deciding to go back for more money or call it quits and sell your items.
Where should I restock? Not all shops are suitable for restocking, because the items have no value whatsoever, or the Est. value is actually higher than or close to the actual value. For example, any shop that sells junk, like the Tiki Tack. Most of those items only sell for 1-5 NP in the Shop Wizard, but are bought for around 200-1,000NP from the Tiki Tack. I recommend starting in a place like the Chocolate Factory. Although it’s very popular as many people are trying to get that sought-after Chocolate Avatar, it restocks a TON of items and will give you a good idea of the items that you should restock and the items you shouldn’t restock. I also recommend using Neoitems.net as a reference guide to become familiar with the items in your designated store, their rarity, etc. Look those items up on the Shop Wizard and compare them to the Est. value given on Neoitems.net .
How often do shops restock? There used to be a set time for when shops do restock, but now it is completely RANDOM! This means you must be ready at any time to restock. This also means you do not need a fast connection to restock, just a bit of luck. So really, this new method of restocking gives everybody a chance. Obviously, in order to catch a restock, you must refresh. *Do NOT constantly refresh, as this will land you with a shop ban! I recommend refreshing every five or so seconds. Just play around with this and find what is comfortable for you. (A shop ban is a temporary ban from ALL of the public shops in Neopia, for a period of time ranging from a few hours to a few days. When under a shop ban, the items in a shop will not appear to you, even if they are actually there. Check if you have received one by going to a shop that is always in stock such as the pharmacy or the Tiki Tack.)
Ok, I refreshed, and the shop restocked! Now what?? Great! Now it’s time to act fast. Use a little bit of impulse and a little bit of knowledge ( I do recommend getting familiar with your designated shop’s items at Neoitems.net) to snag an item. I’ve found that rarer items appear towards the bottom (not always the last row!) and have higher prices than less-rare items.

Ok! Ok! I clicked! Now what? Now you will see a page looking like this:

Enter a price close to what the shopkeeper asks for in the box. (numbers that require little movement over the keypad work best, i.e.: 222, 1212, 2225, 24242 etc. Be careful not to place too many or too few digits, as you will either lose the item to another person, or you will overpay! Now click the picture of the Neopet you see watermarked over the bigger picture. In this case, it’s a blue Acara. If you bid right and clicked correctly, while not wasting any time, you will come to this page:

Woohoo! I restocked an item! How should I price it? Look it up in the Shop Wizard and price it a little bit lower than the lowest price shown. Ex: If an item is in the Shop Wiz for 2,688 NP, and this appears to be the norm for this item, price yours at 2,500. This will sell it much faster, while still making you a hefty profit. If you want even more haste in your selling, advertise your shop in the Shop Ads boards!
Well, folks, that about sums it up for restocking! Here’s a recap:
- Restocking: Buy low, sell high!
- Get 20-40k ready
- Know your designated shop’s items (Neoitems.net!!)
- Refresh enough to catch a restock, but not so that you get banned!
- Click on an item FAST when it restocks!
- Enter an “easy” number (222 4444 78787, etc.)
- DO NOT over-or-under price!
- Click the Neopet
- The item is yours!
Restocking takes some time to get used to, but it can be very rewarding. All you need to become good is a little bit of patience, luck, and PRACTICE! Try practicing on cheap items like inexpensive potions from the magic shop, etc.
