The Neopian Stock Market

Submitted by Miss Tess

So you may have heard of it before: the Neo Stock Market. If you haven’t, you can find it by clicking Games on the sidebar, scrolling down and clicking the little Chia in a suit talking on a cell phone and holding a briefcase. This guide will be explaining how to use the stock market in the most common way, Long-Term. Some people prefer Day Trading, but that is very risky and has the potential to loose you a ton of NP, so I will stick to the tried-and-true method.

If you want to play the Stock market, it is a good idea to have at least 100k that you’re willing to invest into the market. Don’t play the stock market if you think you might need that 100k soon. Also, don’t play the market for fast money. The stock market is a very slow way to earn, but when you do make money, you can make quite a lot!

Ok, so you’ve got your 100k set aside and you’re ready to start playing the stock market. But which stock to buy? I myself only buy when a stock is 15 NP a share.

Sample Stock
Here is an example of a stock. I’m showing BOTT here. Right now, BOTT is at 15 NP a share (see that in the “Curr” column?) so it is a good stock to buy. If you haven’t bought your daily 1,000 shares yet (you can only buy 1,000 shares a day) go ahead and click on the word BOTT. It will take you to a page showing a little bit of BOTT’s history, and some rival companies. If you’ve made up your mind about buying, click on the name of the company and it will take you to the buying page.

The Buying Page

Always buy 1,000 shares. Any less won’t make you much of a prophet.

So now you’ve bought a stock. You need to check on it at least once every day to see if it’s going up. Going up means that the value of the stock is getting higher.

Your Portfolio View

Here is part of my personal portfolio. This is where I can check on my stocks. At a glance I can tell if my stocks are ready to be sold. Just look at the “% Change” column. That shows how much the stock has changed from the price you bought it for. So, for example, I bought EEEEE for 15,000 NP. The stock has gone up 33.33%, and it’s worth 20,000 NP right now. This doesn’t mean I actually have that money yet. If I want to sell, I click on the little triangle to the left of the stock icon. The stock has only gained 5k, though, so I won’t sell it now.

It is a good idea to sell stocks whenever they are at 100.00% or more. That means you will make double of what you paid! (So if you paid 15,000 NP and then sold it at 100.00%, you’d make 30,000 NP.) However, I always sell half (500) of my stock when it goes above 100.00%. I keep the other half and wait to see if the stock goes any higher. Don’t sell the last half until the stock starts to go down.

Above, you can see that BB is down 60.00%. Never sell when a stock is down. It will almost always go back up. Stocks go bankrupt once in a while, but it is very rare and not a thing to worry about.

So, here’s the basics of what you have to do:

Once your port (that means portfolio) has grown and you’ve made lots of NP, you can buy more and more stocks. Soon you will be rolling in the dough!
